The Hilltop Views of San Francisco
San Francisco has hills -- 43 "official" hills, 50-plus by the count of enthusiasts. Many have incredible views, and as any fourth-grader can tell you, going up means you get to look down. Here's a rundown of the best elevations in town, and for good measure, I've thrown in a few other great vantage points for those who might be less vertically inclined. And no, it's not a semi-official compendium of hills or lookout spots, but some of the most interesting and/or accessible.
Mount Davidson
Mt Davidson, USA
The highest point in one of the most godless cities in the world (and proud of it!) has a giant cross at the top. Go figure. Incredible views of the city (and all the … other hills). (photo) [link]
Larsen's Peak

Twin Peaks
Twin Peaks, San Francisco, CA, USA
The heavyweight contender for the lookout crown, Twin Peaks offers incredible views both east and west when not shrouded in fog. (photo) [link]

Fort Point
North Point St
San Francisco, CA 94123
Walk out here during the next huge storm (bring an umbrella), and watch the lightning crash over the Golden Gate Bridge as the waves bash into the rocks. Amazing. (photo) [link]
Vermont Street
Vermont St between 20th and 22nd, San Francisco CA
So it's not that high up, but it is San Francisco's crookedest street (take that, Lombard). (photo) [link]
Tank Hill
1 Carmel St
San Francisco, CA 94117
Cool name, but no military equipment unfortunately (the name comes from an old water tank). Better views than Twin Peaks according to some, and with a western viewpoint … that suffers less from the fog -- more bang for your buck. (photo) [link]
