Super Bowl Parties for NYC Foodies

Tuesday, January 29, 2008

superbowlpartymain.jpgAs you very well know, the Super Bowl is less than a week away, and since the New York Giants are involved, there's even more interest than usual this year in the city. If you don't want to pack in to a crowded and expensive sports bar and would rather throw a party of your own, you'll need some serious snacks and beverages. Hit the supermarket and cook up the classic Super Bowl dishes, or call up one of the following places, put in your order, and let someone else do the work for you.

1

Momofuku Ssam Bar

207 2nd Ave
New York, NY 10003

Every momofuku obsessive throwing a Super Bowl party is probably corralling funds right this moment for the restaurant's special Super Bowl bo ssam feast. It's $30 a head with a $200 minimum and includes a pork shoulder with kimchi lettuce and rice, chicken wings, pickles, kewpie slaw, and Momofuku-style Crackerjacks and peanut brittle. [link]

Manganaros

492 9th Ave
New York, NY 10018

If it's an oversized, bursting sub you're after, skip Subway and place your Super Bowl order at neighborhood staple Manganaros, the go-to place in the city for super-sized heroes. They make subs that can serve up to 40 people, but for a party in a New York apartment, you'll probably want their 3-foot hero with a bunch of sides that feeds 18 people and costs $200. You can also order a hero a la carte for $100 for a 2-footer, or up to $195 for a 6-foot monster. [link]

Frank

19 1st Ave
New York, NY 10003

East Village Italian joint Frank will be offering a special Super Bowl menu that includes a four-foot Italian hero stuffed with an unbelievable amount of meats, baked penne with tomatoes, ricotta and mozzarella, and a Sicilian salad. They're charging $160 and it will feed 10-12 people. Make your order before Wednesday. [link]

Croxley's Ales

28 Avenue B
New York, NY 10009

Croxley's is a great place to watch sports in general, and for the Super Bowl they'll be serving 20ยข wings all night. I'll go sometimes with or without a game to see just to have their delicious cheap wings. If you're having a party at your own place, get some of their wings to go. They offer 50 for $37 or 100 for $74. [link]

Bierkraft

191 5th Ave
Brooklyn, NY 11217

Bierkraft offers everything a gourmand party thrower needs, from growlers of local beer to cheese from all the best makers in Europe to fine delicious chocolate. For the Super Bowl, I suggest picking up a few growlers of a varieties and then heading to the supermarket or one of the following restaurants for your main snacks. [link]
