Brooklyn Gets Gorgeous
Runt penguin chicks need not apply. After a 16-year absence, Brooklyn's own Miss Brooklyn pageant is back! (She's even got her own MySpace... but, unfortunately, not so many friends.) So what exactly does it take to be a modern-day Miss Brooklyn?
Kim Thomas, executive director of the Miss Brooklyn Scholarship Program told the Brooklyn Paper, "we're looking for someone outgoing and fun with spunk and spice to her. [A woman] who doesn't fit the mold of Miss America from the 1960s and '70s." But wait, what about Janet Parker (pictured above), Miss Brooklyn 1963? She looks perfectly nice. And she's got the bod to boot.
All we know of the eight contenders is that they're between the ages of 17 and 24 and that they'll have to participate in all the traditional pageant competitions -- "showing talent" (rumor has it one will be doing a stand-up routine) and demonstrating how well they fill out a swimsuit. The winner of the competition will receive a $1,000 scholarship, entry into the state finals, and "makeup and hair consultations." Alert your favorite stage mom or best gay boyfriend, stat.
