Top Picks: Falling in Love with DC Again
A few weeks ago, the WaPo, as we affectionately call our local rag, came up with a list of activities in the District that will help us jaded old-timers rediscover the heart of our city. I've hand-picked a few from their list and added more of my own. Who said DC ain't got no soul.

US National Arboretum
3501 New York Ave NE
Washington, DC 20002
Rock Creek Park is lovely, but sometimes you need a change. Just off gritty New York Avenue, the sprawling oasis that is the National Arboretum features an Asian garden, … bonsai trees, and a dogwood collection. Also a must-see are the remnants of columns from the Capitol Building. (photo) [link]
Meridian Hill Park
Meridian Hill Park, 3545 Williamsburg Ln NW Washington, DC 20008
When the weather is good, locals flock to the grassy lawns of Dupont Circle. Still, Meridian Hill Park -- or Malcolm X Park for some -- remains oddly quiet. It's beyond … me, because this spot is arguably one of the most lovely in the city. The Post mentions that one of the best times to visit is Sunday afternoons during the weekly drum circle. For hilarity purposes, I couldn't agree more. [link]

Einstein Planetarium
Independence Ave SW & 6th St SW
Washington, DC
The Air and Space Museum makes science cool. And so does their state-of-the-art planetarium that features shows daily, including a free virtual viewing of the night sky. [link]
Exorcist Steps @ Georgetown University
3607 M St NW
Washington, DC 20007
Both my parents went to Georgetown, and, gooey details of their romance aside, I love the story of how they smoked cigarettes in the back of French class and watched … The Exorcist camera crew film the Jesuit priest falling to his death over and over and over again. (photo) [link]
