Oscars Guide To Los Angeles: Take 2
The end of the writer's strike means things are getting back to normal for Los Angeles. It's awards season -- the time when the acronym soup of organizations decide to honor the best in the business. Hollywood gets together for a few months of self-congratulation culminating in the Academy Awards. We'll see the Oscars passed around this Sunday, and while the ceremony takes place at the Kodak Theater, there are a lot of other important events and landmarks surrounding the awards. We've augmented some of the work done in last year's post on the subject to bring you the map, but if we missed anything, please let us know in via tips or the comments.
Suddenly Slimmer
1313 Westwood Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90024
The end of the writer's strike caught a lot of people off guard. Many people likely thought they could take the rest of awards season off, but now they are faced with … lots of preparation. Television adds ten pounds (HD adds at least five more), and so a lot of red carpet-bound men and women are in search of shapely, tan bodies. Spray-on tans are all over the place, but anybody who took some time off from the gym is going to need more than an Olsen twin diet book to get into that great dress. Enter Suddenly Slimmer, which promises that you'll lose 6-20 inches after one visit. Ellen used it before she hosted the Oscars, and it's also been featured on Tyra, so you know it has to work. As a bonus, it doesn't involve the loss of any tooth enamel either. [link]

Kodak Theater
6801 Hollywood Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90028
Located at the Hollywood and Highland complex, the Kodak Theater is also known for hosting the finals of American Idol. The Oscars are still the premier event, which is … apparent even when you're standing at street level. While the street will be closed for a large part of the week, those people who don't fear walking can enjoy the monotony of people erecting bleachers and rolling out the plastic-covered red carpet. If you weren't lucky enough to get bleacher seats, you may still be able to find tickets online. Interesting trade offers are often accepted. [link]
Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel
7000 Hollywood Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90028
Located less than a block from the Kodak Theater, the Hotel Roosevelt was also the site of the very first Academy Awards banquet and presentation. More recently, the … hotel is famous for its celeb-fellating club Teddy's, which owes its popularity to ousted creator Amanda Scheer Demme. Being so close to the Kodak makes it a natural place for an Oscar party. Just watch out for P. Diddy if you go. [link]
Elton John AIDS Foundation Viewing Party
Pacific Design Center 8687 Melrose Ave West Hollywood, CA 90069
Elton John's annual AIDS Foundation fundraiser is perhaps the biggest (and dare we say most fabulous?) event taking place this Sunday not named the Academy Awards. Mary … J. Blige is going to perform, and if there is no way to get yourself into the Kodak Theater, this is not a bad consolation prize. If you didn't get your invite yet, there's always a chance things will work out better next year. In the meantime, you can still do good and bid on some of the items up for auction. [link]
