LA to NYC in 4 Minutes Flat

Thursday, February 28, 2008

Time lapse is potentially one of the most cheapening cinematic techniques - one that today is typically reserved as a time-filler for reality TV shows. But, when done by the Gondry brothers (Michel, of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Science of Sleep fame, and his brother, Oliver, a renowned video editor), it's flawless. Here, for a music video for French pop songster Stephan J, a.k.a. Lacquer, the Gondry brothers shot a continuous time lapse of a guy driving from L.A. to NYC. Shot from the back seat of a convertible, the video follows the driver from the City of Angels to the Big Apple by way of Las Vegas, New Mexico, and a handful of other locales I'll leave it to you to distinguish. Road trip anyone?
