Games Nights in DC

game%20playing%20at%20dc%20bars.jpgBars across the District know everything is more fun after a few cocktails, and childhood board games are no exception. In the mood for a little Carmen Sandiego? You're in luck. A number of local watering holes give tipsy patrons the chance to indulge their inner kid with games ranging from Jenga to checkers. Finally, you'll understand how your parents made it through four consecutive games of Monopoly. Check out the following spots if you're looking for some old-school entertainment. Suggestions welcome via the comments or the tip line, and don't forget our round-up of DC pub quizzes. (photo)

Rock & Roll Hotel

1353 H Street NE Washington, DC 20002

Rock & Roll Hotel

Rock & Roll Hotel offers one of the best (and cheapest) game nights in D.C. every Thursday. Between the $2 Pabst and free Jenga, entertainment costs are at a minimum here. If you really want to relive your childhood, order a fluffer-nutter panini. (photo) [link]

Rocket Bar

714 7th Street NW Washington, DC 20001

Rocket Bar

Chinatown's Rocket Bar offers a number of board games options ranging from Uno to Connect Four for Pabst-swilling patrons. (The cans of beer, their cheapest special, will cost you $3 a pop.) Better yet, the bar lets you bring in takeout food from area restaurants. [link]

Atomic Billiards

3427 Conn. Ave NW Washington DC 20008

Atomic Billiards

Coffee tables, couches and board games are staples at Cleveland Park's Atomic Billiards. Customers rave about the dimly lit bar's low-key, retro vibe. (photo) [link]

Bedrock Billiards

1841 Columbia rd NW Washington DC

Bedrock Billiards

This basement pool bar offers those weary of the Adams Morgan scene a much-needed respite. It also has a variety of board games on hand. (photo) [link]

McFadden's

2401 Pennsylvania Ave NW Washington, DC 20037

McFadden's

If they're not showing a Notre Dame football game, I typically don't go to McFaddens. The bar is usually overrun with GW undergrads and the creepy older men that hit on them. However, it does offer movie and game night specials every Wednesday. Half-price burgers and $10 buckets of Bud Light make for an inexpensive evening.(photo) [link]

Continental Bar & Billiards

Continental Bar & Billiards

This brightly colored bar wins points for having one of my favorite games, Trivial Pursuit. Continental also offers games like Connect Four for the happy hour crowd. (photo) [link]
