Hangin' With the Real Housewives of NYC

Friday, March 28, 2008

realhousewivesnyc.jpgA few weeks ago Bravo TV debuted an all-new Real Housewives reality series starring five wealthy, New York-based housewives (one is actually a still-single wannabe housewife). There's Luann the countess, who is in some cases a real cuntess; Ramona, the 40-something who desperately wishes she was half her age; Bethenny, the self-made celebrity chef who may or may not be on the verge of a nervous breakdown; Jill, the Upper West Side Jew-by-way-of-the ghetto; and Alice Alex, whose obsessions include breeding multilingual children and rising to the highest echelons of NY society. After the jump, where they hang in the Big Apple: a LES sex shop, an elementary school, and some seriously swank restaurants.

Babeland

94 Rivington St
New York, NY 10002

Luann and Nikki just window shopped at this LES sex-shop after dinner and pre-concert, but you get the feeling that Luann will be back: she said she had the vibrantly colored dildos displayed in the window "in every color" and that they'd make a good Christmas gift for Nikki. (photo) [link]

Alice & Olivia

219 Mott St
New York, NY 10012

All of the housewives end up at this NYC store's fashion week party/presentation. Ramona got Luann's blood boiling when she said models don't use their heads (the countess is a former model), while Alex and Simon met Bethenny's boyfriend Jason for the first time. (photo) [link]

Arena

135 W 41st St
New York, NY 10036

Seventeen Magazine's Rock N Style Party, which featured a performance by Ne-Yo, took place at this Times Square nightclub. Luann and Jill each bring their daughters, who bond over Victoria's "psycho dog." (photo) [link]

Scoop

1277 3rd Ave
New York, NY 10021

Jill takes her daughter Ally shopping for back-to-school clothes and a dress for the Seventeen Magazine party at this high-priced chain store's Upper East Side branch. They leave after having spent $2,000. [link]

T Bar Steak & Lounge

1278 3rd Ave
New York, NY 10021

This Tony Fortuna steak restaurant is where Ramona and her girlfriends meet some middle-aged douches in the third episode. High quality cuts of meat and a celebrity sighting are two bonuses to be expected at this Upper East Side spot. (photo) [link]

Nello

696 Madison Ave
New York, NY 10065

This is the celebrity studded Upper East Side Italian restaurant where Luann meets Alex for the first time while dining with her, Bethenny, and Jill. NY Magazine offers a stellar (and by stellar I mean hilarious) review of the clientele, saying it's "the upper crust of the Upper East Side, dining in their natural environment of a bustling, noisy, needlessly expensive Italian restaurant." Hotel Chandler

12 E 31st St
New York, NY 10016

The general manager at this midtown east hotel three blocks from the Empire State Building is Simon Van Kempen, Alex's husband. You can see him briefly in the second episode, talking about revamping the entryway. The Chandler's website describes its rooms, which run upwards of $510 a night, as "sumptuous" (totally something Simon would say). [link]

Cake Shop

152 Ludlow St
New York, NY 10002

Downstairs at this LES bakery/record shop/live music venue is where Luann and Nikki caught a performance by Nikki's indie-rock friends, Big Black Cloud. On Luann's blog for the series, Bravo referred to the space as "uber-hip." Barf. (photo) [link]

Claremont Preparatory School

41 Broad St
New York, NY 10004

This prep school is the one that Alex and Simon tour thanks to Jill's hook-up. It's a former Bank of America building -- the kitchen is inside a bank vault. Whether their two children will end up at Claremont remains to be seen. (photo) [link]

Wilhelmina Models

300 Park Ave S
New York, NY 10010

This NY- LA- and Miami-based modeling and casting agency is where Ramona takes her daughter for a "reading and go-see" in the second episode. If signed, Avery would be in good company -- Wilhelmina represents Fergie, Beyonce, the Simpson sisters, and so many others. [link]

Little Giant

85 Orchard St
New York, NY 10002

This is the LES eatery where Luann goes for grapefruit cocktails with her 23-year-old niece Nikki. (As Luann puts it, Nikki "keeps her young.") The one-room restaurant is definitely one of the area's best: while watching, I was too busy thinking about the amazing food I've had there to focus on Nikki's horrendous headband. (photo) [link]
