Futuristic City Springs to Life In The Desert

394first.jpgHere at Gridskipper, we love chronicling all the insane construction in Dubai. It's easy to get distracted by the elaborate theme parks, island cities, and rooftop tennis courts and forget that not too long ago the area was practically a desert. After the jump, a photo that dramatically illustrates the breakneck speed of development in Dubai over the last few years.

I could take this opportunity to mention how our poor economy has slowed down major construction projects here in the states and use the comparison with Dubai to make a point about the oil industry, but I won't. It's all too depressing. I won't hate. Good for Dubai. In fact, I hope they have a great time in their ridiculous mansions and seven-star hotels. [via]
