Excellent Design Hotels in Paris

budget-design-hotels-paris.jpgIt may be true that you get as much design as you pay for, but there's no reason that travelers with a bit of cash should stay in a dusty, dated Paris hotel room. Non-astronomically priced, clean and modern rooms with a bit of personality and style are increasingly available. There's now no shortage of designy hotels on both banks for those who want to sleep in a well thought-out space. Here's a selection of hotels in Paris for the design-conscious with a budget of less than €200 a night. (You may also want to check out our list of modern and moderate hotels from last year.)

Le Standard Design

This Right Bank design hotel on a quiet street near the Bastille has 36 individually decorated rooms done up with simple style and flashes of color. There are flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and an airy attic breakfast room with a view of Paris rooftops. From €140. [link]

Hotel La Manufacture

The Guardian recently named the Hotel La Manufacture one of the world's Top 10 design hotels for under £100, but don't expect avant garde design in the 56 rooms of this 19th-century Haussmanian building on a short street near the Place d'Italie. It's all clean and classically tasteful, with spacious, contemporary bathrooms and a friendly staff. From €120. [link]

5, Rue Rampon
75011 11ème Arrondissement Paris, Paris, France

Just off the Place de la République, this hotel has a lobby done in fresh modern pinks and browns. The rooms are in calmly neutral tones, with crisp all-white bathrooms, and cute little touches like a green apple on every pillow. There's Wi-Fi access in every room, as well as a business center and a workout room, plus a cheerful lobby bar. From €165. [link]

Five Hotel

3, Rue Flatters
75005 5ème Arrondissement Paris, Paris, France

At this flashily designed hotel on a quiet street in the Latin Quarter, rooms are decorated by color (choose the black room, the orange room, or the green room, among others), with sexy touches like string curtains around the beds and twinkly lights in the headboards. Plus there are modern conveniences like LCD flatscreens, free Wi-Fi, and air conditioning. From €190. [link]

Hotel Arvor

8, Rue Laferrière
75009 9ème Arrondissement Paris, Paris, France

The Hotel Arvor is just off the charming Place Saint-Georges in the 9th arrondissement, where you will feel more like a Parisian than a tourist. The 30 rooms are decorated simply, with clean lines and shots of color. Many have a view (ask for one of the Eiffel Tower). The common spaces are more cozy, with a squishy sofa and book-filled bookcase in the lobby, and a friendly bar. From €140. [link]
