Survival Guide: Central Park

Thursday, April 17, 2008

centralpark_ny.jpgI was in Central Park the other week and realized that even locals need survival guides. So I asked a few of my friends who visit the park more than I do, and I noted placed I stumbled upon by accident and came up with this list. Have any others? Have a favorite place where you can walk for a few feet without running in sunbathers or dog poop? Feel free to leave them in the comments.

Dog Walker's Paradise

Central Park West & 72nd St
New York, NY 10023

There's a huge boulder-mound thing just east of this interaction where disgruntled dads go to walk their dogs on Sunday mornings and complain to each other about their wives. I stumbled upon it by accident. If anyone knows where the accompanying one for bored housewives is, please let me know. It would certainly be a lot less awkward. [link]

Conservatory Garden

5th Ave & 105th St
New York, NY

I've heard that it's a rare day when a wedding is not held in the Conservatory Garden. It's also a place where 7-year-olds have birthday parties when the Victorian Gardens aren't available, Ah, city life. My 7th birthday party was at a Pizza Hut in North Jersey and I thought it was the best thing ever. [link]

Bow Bridge

Mid-Park at 74th Street New York NY

Bridges are automatically considered romantic, so it's only fitting that a 60-foot, arching bridge in the middle of the park would be a go-to spot for couples. I didn't stick around the general area to see visual proof of Richard's guide to getting action here, but I'll definitely take his work for it. [link]

Bethesda Terrace and Fountain

Mid-Park at 72nd Street New York NY

The first time I tried to find the Terrace, it took nearly half an hour because I kept asking police officers who pointed me in the wrong direction. Now I have finally seen Bethesda Foundation, long after numerous film directors, international tourists, and vendors selling $3 hot dogs made the journey. Very anticlimatic. [link]
