Chicago Baseball Bars

Tuesday, June 23, 2009

baseball062409.jpgIn our quest to provide baseball fans with bars where they can indulge in mutual loves and shared hostilities, here's our brief guide to baseball bars in Chicago. Though not as readily diverse as New York or Los Angeles -- which have numerous bars catering to out-of-town teams -- Chicago does have a few options for transplants or visitors. As always, if you have more suggestions for the list, tell us at tips@gridskipper.com. And now, to the sporty drinking.

1

Everyone Else: Tailgaters

431 W Boughton Rd
Bolingbrook, IL 60440

This is your basic enormous all-purpose sports bar that subscribes to MLB Extra Innings and has over 40 TVs. They'll play pretty much whatever game you ask for. Setting up shop inside as a den for your particular team and fellow fans is also encouraged.[link]

St. Louis Cardinals: Sedgwick's

1935 N Sedgwick St
Chicago, IL 60614

Several readers tipped us off to this roost for Cards fans in Chicago. Sedgwick's is a huge bar and grill that serves a free buffet on Friday and Saturday afternoon during games. It's a staple for Cardinals fanatics and has little tolerance for any Cubbies.[link]

Chicago White Sox: Jimbo's

3258 S Princeton Ave
Chicago, IL 60616

Jimbo's has been the go-to White Sox bar in Chicago for over two decades. The bar is vehemently anti-Cubs, and it's a great rowdy place for watching the game.[link]

Chicago White Sox: Schaller's Pump

3714 S Halsted St
Chicago, IL 60609

Schaller's is a historic bar next to the stadium. It's also located near the offices of high-powered local Democrats and has been a political hangout for years.[link]

5

Chicago Cubs: Slugger's

3540 N Clark St
Chicago, IL 60657

Countless bars in Chicago cater to the hometown team and Slugger's is one of the most die-hard spots. Their walls are lined with Cubs photos and memorabilia, and every game runs on the dozens of TVs overhead. The bar has a full menu, pool tables, video games, pinball machine, batting cages, trampolines, and dueling pianos after every Cubs home game.[link]

Chicago Cubs: Murphy's Bleachers

3655 N Sheffield Ave
Chicago, IL 60613

Murphy's Bleachers, located right across the street from Wrigley Field, dates back to the 1930s and always has huge crowds for the games.[link]

Chicago Cubs: Cubby Bear

1059 W Addison St
Chicago, IL 60613

Located right in the heart of Wrigleyville, Cubby Bear, packs 'em in to watch 14 screens of baseball.[link]

Boston Red Sox: Nic and Dino's Tripoli Tap

1147 W Armitage Ave
Chicago, IL 60614

Owned by two Red Sox fans from Framingham, MA, Nic and Dino's is the number-one spot for Boston fans in Chicago. They have a Red Sox flag flying out front and play the game every night. The menu features typical bar fare, including wings, sloppy joes, steak sandwiches, and burgers.[link]
