Prime Pubs in SF's Financial District
There's nothing like the thought of unwinding with a freshly poured draft beer in one hand and fried foods in the other. It's a frustrating thought to have, however, while slaving over your keyboard at work. Here's a rundown of SF FiDi pubs to visit in case you're looking for a meeting spot for your co-minions to meet and vent. These aren't necessarily Irish pubs, mind you, but they're enough to get you drooling for beer once it's quittin' time. Add your own faves via the comments or the tipline.

Kells Irish Restaurant & Pub
530 Jackson St
San Francisco, CA 94133
A bit off the beaten path of FiDi places, but this is the type of pub to socialize in, if you're looking for a youngish crowd of FiDi workers. Although it has a Joe … College, Kells isn't as hyperactive as the other pubs -- at least until Friday or Saturday night. Those nights, the crowd spills drunkenly onto the street in front, either hanging around or loading into cabs to go to the next spot. A great place to get sloshed, in that it's far enough from work to return the next day with dignity relatively intact. (photo) [link]
Royal Exchange
301 Sacramento St
San Francisco, CA 94111
Royal Exchange is generally busy after work, with plenty of briefcases and purses along the ground to trip on. It's also a big pickup joint in case you're looking to date … young attorneys and investors. The women's restroom is usually filled with girls primping before they head back into the bar, and groups of guys may be found watching the game and the girls. Pick up a date or pick up a beer -- it usually doesn't matter. [link]
Schroeder's
240 Front St
San Francisco, CA 94111
Schroeder's is one of those downtown gems that also comes with live polka music. As the "oldest and largest German restaurant on the west coast," you're in for German … food, German beer, and sausages galore -- both the edible and male type. Schroeder's gets particularly lively during Oktoberfest (lasting all month long here), so bring your lederhosen. [link]
Norton's Vault
500 Sacramento St
San Francisco, CA 94111
The food at Norton's Vault is more of a draw than, say, beer -- the sandwiches and salads are great if that's what you're looking for. The beer selection isn't paltry by … any means (they have about 12 beers on tap), and they also have a decent selection of wine. The crowd is laid back and easygoing, with none of the jostling of the other pubs nearby. [link]
Elephant & Castle
Albeit a bit chain-ish, E&C still manages to pack in the crowds. They have a decent dinner menu (if you can find room during Fridays) and good beers on tap. They have … Thursday quiz nights, and for the romantically challenged, a date-y version cleverly named Quiz Dates. You've been warned. (photo) [link]
Harrington's Bar & Grill
245 Front St
San Francisco, CA 94111
A good alternative to the meat market that is the Royal Exchange, Harrington's has a less-harried crowd, though they still enjoy their beer, their food, and being loud. … Games are broadcast on TVs overhead, but not in an obtrusive way. There's also a small smoking patio up front for those who want beer in hand while lighting up. (photo) [link]
