Gay Bar Hopping in Philly

Tuesday, April 22, 2008

gaybarcrawlphilly422.jpgChelsea Clinton hit Philly on a gay bar crawl Friday, causing quite a commotion. The potential two-time First Daughter was "mobbed by local gays and lesbians;" at least one woman claims to have "grabbed her ass." In total Clinton hit four Philadelphia spots (the first four on our list), joining director Rob Reiner and Governor Ed Rendell on a crawl to gain Democratic support during the primaries. But, enough about politics... where to rub shoulders with Philadelphia's same-sex-oriented finest? Chelsea Clinton's stops supplemented with a couple other picks after the jump. (photo) [MSNBC]

Knock

225 S 12th St
Philadelphia, PA 19107

This upscale bar, which serves high-end cocktails and has an extensive wine list, is the second venture of Bill Wood (who launched Woody's). Those looking for an afternoon fix will be happy to know booze is served from 11a.m. to 2.am. daily. Most of the food served here is rumored to be so-so, with the delicious flatbread pizzas an exception. (photo) [link]

Bump Lounge

1234 Locust St
Philadelphia, PA 19107

Don't be fooled by the name, there's no dance floor at this gay bar. There is, however, a full food menu, serving everything from Rueben sandwiches to shrimp scampi, and outdoor seating, which means you can both smoke and/or soak in the wonderful weather all summer long. (photo) [link]

Tavern on Camac

243 S Camac St
Philadelphia, PA 19107

This Washington Square West spot is one of the oldest gay bars in the city. Thanks to a piano and a typically gregarious crowd, sing-a-longs are far from uncommon. There's also a dance floor upstairs where you can boogie to 80s hits. You can also order a side of seafood with your showtunes, since Tavern on Camac doubles as a restaurant. [link]
