Nicolas G. Hayek Center

Nicolas G. Hayek CenterThere's a new mega-brand building in town, and for once I can say it's something you really won't want to miss out on. With a design team headed by star architect Shigeru Ban, you just know that Swatch Group Japan's Nicolas G. Hayek Center in Tokyo's Ginza district (7-9-18 Ginza) is going to be worth checking out. It plays host to seven of the group's brands; to get to the shops (and this is where things get interesting) you actually enter an elevator/showroom that brings you directly to the shop. Yes, seven shops, so seven elevators. The top floor includes an exhibition space that will feature events, and the building itself is covered in so much greenery that you almost feel as if you've stepped into an urban oasis.

An Afternoon in Aoyama and Ginza

Agnes B.This past weekend I was interviewed by a travel magazine for a piece they're doing on bloggers worldwide, and so I took the writer around to a few favorite spots, which wouldn't you know it, should make for a great post here since it'll give you ideas on what to see in Aoyama and Ginza. We met at Omotesando station in Aoyama, at the Omotesando/Aoyama street crossing, before I took him to the A to Z Cafe. Then, we just crossed the street and checked out part of the "Obey Giant Vs. WK Interact" exhibition at the Agnès B. store -- the main show is being held at Tokyo Wonder Sight in Shibuya. We then made our way back to Aoyama street, crossed the road, and had a look at Naoto Fukasawa's gorgeous designs at the Plusminuszero store (well worth checking out, especially for the outdoor cafe).

Mitsui Garden Hotel Ginza: Tokyo's Modern Eden

mitsui.jpgThough you didn't hear it here, there are more than just love hotels in Tokyo. There are many places to rest your head on plush pillows in modernistacally (sp?) designed interiors while enjoying peace and calm in the otherwise chaotic Tokyo streets. The Mistui Garden Hotel Ginza is exactly the kind of boutique hotel found worldwide and never fails to bring a rictus on our luxury loving face. IN n the immortal words of Tablet Garden Hotel Ginza

Mitsui Garden Hotel Ginza, is a modern, design hotel with excellent luxury accomodations & suites located in the Ginza area of Downtown Tokyo. Perfect for Tokyo business meetings & events, the Mitsui Garden Hotel is located in the only high-rise building in Ginza, offering remarkable cityscape views. Mitsui garden hotel also features the Italian Restaurant Sky and the Karin lounge for exciting Tokyo nightlife.
The interior was designed by esteemed Italian Piero Lissoni and the Karin bar is hewn from one awfully large 600 year old oak. Rooms from US$111, a decidedly unboutiquey bargain.
