Los Angeles Art Weekend 2008

When you hear a person say that they love Los Angeles but wish it had more "culture," you have to realize that it is really just a more acceptable way of saying, "I would live in New York, but I am a huge pussy about the cold." We've brought you guides to classic museums and some unusual museums, as well as downtown's culture district. This Thursday through Sunday also marks the first LA Art Weekend open for public consumption, giving everybody a chance to get a little more cultured. We've listed some of the top draws for this year's weekend to help you get started, but make sure to check out the website for the full list of events and exhibits.

Taco Wars Part 2: For the Cheapskate Angeleno

We've already covered some of the places you can go for the best Los Angeles tacos, but there are times, like after a half-dozen margaritas, when quantity is better than quality. There are plenty of restaurants out there featuring a "Taco Tuesday" where you can grab a multitude of tacos, sometimes for less than a dollar each. They might not always be the most authentic, but you know the price is right. And even if you can't get outside on a Tuesday, this taco-crazy town will keep you awash in inexpensive Mexican(ish) eats almost every day of the week.

Greek Restaurants of Los Angeles

Los Angeles owes a lot to the Greeks, and I'm not just saying that because we've hosted the Olympics twice in the last 100 years. I am not giving thanks because Athens might have been the pinnacle episode of Taradise. Nor am I talking about the inspiration that helped Hollywood put Gerard Butler and Brad Pitt in leather on the battlefield. I am talking about the wonders of Greek cuisine, which reminds the people of Los Angeles the olives can be used outside of martinis and lambs are even better when cooked with garlic rather than lining your Ugg boots. I've listed some of the more popular places in Los Angeles to get some Greek flavor, but please leave a comment or shoot us a tip if we've left anything out.

Homegrown Steakhouses of Los Angeles

Everybody thinks that the denizens of Los Angeles are on a constant diet. At times it may seem that we subsist on nothing but tofu and soy milk. There is a flip side to this, however. We love our burgers, and we also love our steaks. Any list that talks about the top steaks is sure to include places like Ruth's Chris, Arnie Morton's, Lowry's, The Palm, etc., so I'm going to limit my selection to places that are more distinctly LA. Make sure to leave a comment or tip if I've left any of your favorites off the list.
