On Its Way: Real Housewives of NJ The Real Housewives reality series is finding its next attention-seeking subjects in none other than . . . wait for it . . . New Jersey! That's right, a wealthy, not-yet-released community in the Garden State will soon be invaded by Bravo's camera crews. But don't worry, both the Orange County and NYC versions have been OK'd for another season. Let's just pray it'll turn into a full-fledged competition à la Road Rules, with the New Jersey and NYC housewives going head-to-head. [NY Observer]

Hangin' With the Real Housewives of NYC

A few weeks ago Bravo TV debuted an all-new Real Housewives reality series starring five wealthy, New York-based housewives (one is actually a still-single wannabe housewife). There's Luann the countess, who is in some cases a real cuntess; Ramona, the 40-something who desperately wishes she was half her age; Bethenny, the self-made celebrity chef who may or may not be on the verge of a nervous breakdown; Jill, the Upper West Side Jew-by-way-of-the ghetto; and Alice Alex, whose obsessions include breeding multilingual children and rising to the highest echelons of NY society. After the jump, where they hang in the Big Apple: a LES sex shop, an elementary school, and some seriously swank restaurants.

Rameniacs Rejoice: Ippudo Hits NYC

Ippudo, a ramen noodle chain with 34 outposts in Japan, just made its way to the states. Rare Daily called the spot, set to open Monday, "the Balthazar of ramen restaurants." After seeing the space firsthand last night, the French bistro connection seems a bit farfetched. But the space, on 4th Avenue at 10th Street, is super sleek. Despite Ippudo's chain restaurant status, it feels more Chinatown Brasserie than Chipotle. There's plenty of white leather seating, white walls embossed with Japanese characters, dark wood, and an open kitchen, so you can watch as your ramen noodles as they're dunked in a boiling hot water bath. The man-of-the-hour, the restaurant's creator, Shigemi Kawahara, aka the Ramen King (yes, he's actually called that in Japan, and, yes, he's very famous there), was on-hand, being filmed by not one, but two Japanese film crews flown in especially for the event. By 2010, Bryant Park will no longer hosting NY Fashion Week. The 10th Avenue rail yards are the next locale in line. In related news, the Council of Fashion Designers of America President Diane Von Furstenberg will be honoring Mayor Bloomberg at this year's Board of Directors Special Tribute, "in part for Hizzoner's long-range pledge to von Furstenberg that whoever wins the bid to develop the rail yards will have to ensure that the complex can host Fashion Week." Maxim takes a look at five of NYC's hottest young chefs, who are "offer[ing] fresh takes on haute-cuisine." In the spread, the top picks sport ever-so-tastefully disheveled designer clothing in the comfort of their kitchens. Chosen hotties include Tailor's Sam Mason (tats blazing), Park Avenue Springs' Craig Koketsu, Crave Ceviche Bar's Todd Mitgang, Allen & Delancey's Neil Ferguson, and Anthos' Michael Psilakis. [via]

In a project titled New York Talk Exchange, MIT researchers are mapping telecom traffic between people in NYC and the rest of the world. The multi-colored map showcases converted "IP and voice data traffic into several animations revealing network flow over time between neighborhoods, international calls between more than 100 cities, and the like." It will be on view as part of MOMA's new exhibit, "Design and the Elastic Mind." [via]

NYC police are reporting that it was an "improvised explosive device" that was responsible for the small explosion at a military recruiting center early this morning at 3:45 a.m. in Times Square. So far, the only suspect is "a man in a gray hooded sweatshirt . . . seen leaving the scene on a bicycle." Subway and traffic are running normally. [NYT]
