In an attempt to curb smoking among children, UK cigarette vending machines may soon be banned from pubs and restaurants, and supermarkets and convenience stores will be forced to sell cigarettes from beneath shop counters. The move would put the UK in line with regions in Canada, Australia and Tasmania, where similar bans have been implemented. A consultation process regarding the issue will begin in late May. Getting Around the DC Smoking Ban
I remember a smoke-filled D.C. After the ban went into effect, I finally realized what all of these sweaty rock clubs and bars smell like underneath the protective blanket of exhaled carcinogens -- pee, body odor and farts. I told myself the smoking ban was probably a good way for ME to quit. Not so. I freeze, get wet and fend off homeless bummers for sweet, sweet nicotine. There are, however, some places in D.C. that managed to sneak around the law somehow, and bravo to them! Sure, I could go outside, by why? Ain't no law gonna change me, that's for sure. I'll quit when I want to.
