I am Sam, But Not Mentally Retarded, and More Sculptural

Thursday, February 15, 2007

iamsam.jpgThe Seattle Art Museum recently opened a vast sculpture park, littered with the priceless monumental praxis of many of today's most well-known large scale sculptures. While traversing the giant 2,200 ft. z-shaped path, you'll encounter works by Calder (shown), the gentle curves of Richard Serra's sculptures as well as work by Louis Bourgeois and the geometric clumps by Tony Smith. Opened in late January, the sculpture garden feels all the more massive for being constantly enshrouded in mist. But on a clear day, the Olympic mountains trace a heart beat rhythm against the pale sky, illustrating God too was no slouch at sculpture. Shit, it's been a long day.
