Pentagram Feedback Guide
A product of the Pentagram design group, Feedback (now in its 8th edition, despite what the website says) is a worldwide guidebook full of travel tips from an exclusive set of artists and other creative types. The idea is for readers to feel like they've been taken to some pleasantly random corner of a city by friends who live there. Sometimes you just need to know the best wine shop in Tallinn, Estonia, or how to find a set of appliances engraved with Snoopy's visage in Tokyo. Although some pointers only lead you to already touristy locales like the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, most of the finds, like Cincinnati’s best ice cream, fit the bill as locals-only advice. The book itself is barebones, straight text -- the material gets right to the property listings, with almost no travel advice, background, maps, etc. The catch is that even though Feedback is free (or usually so, as it's often a giveaway to Pentagram clients and friends), getting the book takes strong legs for much hoop-jumping. Try e-mailing Pentagram at info@pentagram.com and see if you can nab one for yourself; you might get it gratis, or you might be asked to pay $20. It'll be worth it for the next time you're seeking a store selling millions of buttons in NYC.
