Green Valley Ranch

01252006.14.jpgOne of the most often overlooked and yet popular Las Vegas casino hotels sits a couple of miles outside the strip in Henderson. It's also a favorite with younger locals, as the influx of Phoenicians and Californians makes for good social mixing. Green Valley Ranch has separate entrances for the casino and the resort -- unlike most Vegas hotels, gamblers aren't battered by gawking tourists on their way to check in (GVR is also home to the Travel Channel show American Casino). The casino features a generous 54 table games, race & sports book, a dedicated poker room, and the usual armies of slots for your gambling pleasure. Whiskey Sky is a main nightlife attraction, sitting adjacent to the pool and enjoying an incredible view. There's no cover at Whiskey Sky, and Friday nights feature local and guest DJs. GVR also has an incredible spa and the typical assortment of poolside amenities (cabanas, cafe, etc.). Next door is the District at Green Valley Ranch, a medium-sized row of stores and boutiques. Overall, GVR has earned a reputation as a reasonably priced but still luxurious retreat for those who come to Vegas to party but still want a little relaxing distance between themselves and the nonstop madness on the Strip.
