Sub Aqua Tragedy in London

0703_sasha_640x380.jpgOther than scuba diving, most things that involve human beings underwater for a long time end in tears, not that you can see them because you're underwater. Sasha Waltz' version of Purcell's Dido and Aeneas is no different. Part-opera, part-play, part-dance, the performance at London's Sadler Well's Theater tells the story of Queen Dido and the future founder of Rome Aeneas and uses parallel sets of singers and dancers to enact the roles. Though the interpretation may be liberal, since Purcell's score doesn't really exist so anything pretty much goes. And in this case, that involves almost nude dudes and an aquarium. Show runs March 14-18th.
