Bitchin' Bingo in LA

Friday, July 27, 2007

belle.jpg I still remember like it was yesterday the first time I walked into the now-defunct Stonewall Gourmet Coffee in West Hollywood for Legendary Bingo Night. The Fabulous Belle Aire was, of course, the first, last, and only person who caught my eye that night. With her outrageous getup and attitude to match, she left no doubt that her life's true calling was calling balls. Legendary Bingo took the game out of old age homes and senior centers, and redeposited it into bars, clubs, and pubs. Take your pick of drag queens, rock and roll themes, and just straight up bingo boozing from the following seven Los Angeles Bingo nights, or get creative and DIY at home.

Bigfoot Lodge

3172 Los Feliz Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90039
(323) 662-9227

Sunday is Bingo Night at the rustic Bigfoot Lodge on Los Feliz, just off the 5. Boy and Girl Scouts play for beer and other swell prizes, while DJ Cooter calls the cards and spins all his favorites. Because music, bingo, and beer obviously don't provide enough stimulation, Spencer "The Movie Guy" presents weird clips from his film collection of 8mm and 16mm government propaganda, child hygiene, teenage dating, 1950s strippers, and truly bizarre found home movies from the 1940s through the 1970s. No cover, lots of fun. [link]
