God vs. Mammon at Mood

Thursday, June 2, 2005

mood.jpgLA nightclub meister David Judaken (of the revitalized Garden of Eden) recently opened his new venture Mood down on Hollywood Boulevard. Designed to incarnate "the conflict between religion and debauchery," Mood does not apparently consist of Puritans burning clubgoers at the stake. Instead, the place resembles a Bali-esque mishmash of Southeast Asian accents, like your giant temple bells and your bamboo altars and your smirking Shivas. It's being run by the former manager of Las Vegas's Mix, which I'm on record as liking a lot, so I'd be willing to forgive the cheese factor and give Mood a day in court. Expect serious door attitude at this posh joint, especially on celebrity-promotion nights, and definitely call ahead to make sure the crowd suits your inclinations (themes include Top 40, hip-hop, R&B, various flavas of DJ, etc.).
