Nobody in Philly

Despite my attempts to lure him into becoming an exclusive sub-brand of Gridskipper, Leon Logothetis (the America on $5 a day guy) has started his own blog, thank you very much, to report on his adventures finding out just how cruelly indifferent Americans can be to documentary filmmakers. After leaving Times Square on Sunday, Leon managed to make it as far as Philadelphia. But perhaps my favorite incident to date took place in Newark:
Arrived in Newark to find the downtown area somewhat deserted. Found some people and was stopped by a traveling preacher. He was also a martial arts fighter trained by a contestant in the TV series "Ultimate Fighter"...He showed me some of his ninja moves and nearly broke my leg! After this orgy of violence we prayed together in downtown Newark.Pray all you want, you're still in Newark. Leon did in fact make it to Philly, where he overcame the dire prophecies of a highly discouraging youth hostel proprietor by crashing on the couch of an Eagles fan still riding high on victory. The friendly fellow expressed surprise at his own kindness and a fervent hope that Leon is not a "psycho-axe-murderer."
