Top Picks: Seattle's Post-Grunge Music Scene

Thursday, August 16, 2007

seattle%20%28Custom%29.jpgSeattle may have been the birthplace of grunge over a decade ago, but not much noise has come out of the city in these quiet aught years. Yet it turns out the musical roots haven't totally died there. Many great music venues, record stores, and dance clubs call the rainy city home, and rabid techno, electronica, and dub-step scenes have taken root over the last dozen or so years. Recently the San Francisco Chronicle interviewed popular Seattle DJ Shawn Kralicek (DJ Struggle) to compile a music lover's guide to Seattle.

1

Decibel Festival

Broadway Performance Hall (Broadway @ Pine) Seattle, Washington

Seattle's annual Decibel Festival hits the city at the end of next month and is always a highlight for electronica lovers. Beyond the dozens of performers and DJs, the festival hosts panel discussions, workshops, and visual art showcases. [link]

Cafe Flora

2901 E Madison St
Seattle, WA 98112

Though a restaurant doesn't really belong on a guide to Seattle's music scene, it looks like the Chronicle wanted to give the late night revelers a good hangover breakfast option. Cafe Flora not only serves a great veggie menu, it also sources as many ingredients as possible from local producers. For brunch, try lemon raspberry French toast made with cinnamon vanilla batter, incredibly sweet New Orleans-style beignets, and Mexican polenta hash and eggs. [link]
