AtoZ Cafe
Constantly on the lookout for new cafes, I must say that I was in for quite the treat this past Saturday when I ended up checking out the recently opened AtoZ Cafe (5-8-3-5F Minami-Aoyama; coming from Omotesando crossing, take your first left following the Spiral building, and the cafe is located towards the end of this street on your right). The cafe is a collaboration between artist Yoshitomo Nara -- there's a very good chance you've seen some of his work, usually composed of young girls with evil looks -- and design company graf. The space is like nothing I've seen before, and it certainly contrasts with the usual stylish and modern cafes found in Aoyama. In the center of the main seating area, you'll find a "house" that looks like some sort of atelier for a young Nara, featuring plenty of his illustrations on display. The entire cafe has a "homey" feel to it -- all the furniture is mismatched, as well as the seat cushions -- making you feel like you've stepped into Nara's private little world. With a reasonably priced menu, extensive drink selections, as well as some tasty meal options, I'm already looking forward to my next visit. Here's a Flickr photoset of a few shots I took inside.
