Toxic LA: With the taste of your lips...
Enough with celebrity obsessions. What makes LA LA isn't the preponderance of massively accrued wealth being disposed of up some young starlets nostrils nor even the Wienstein's machinations of world domination. No, it's that in this city, pollution is distributed along strictly socio-economic lines. Well, granted that's the case in most cities but only in LA can you take a Toxic Tour of affected sites. True the tour ranks right below a tour of Auschwitz in terms of not-funness but it is enlightening to see closely how pollution and social position. The tour, written about in a little pub called USA Today or something, is put on by the Communities for a Better Environment, an activist organization. Stops include a trip to "Asthma Town" a community in Huntington Beach with an alarmingly high incidence of asthma to Suva Elementary School, a school located next to a chrome-plating plant which released toxic gases into the air and caused the miscarriage of many of the school employee's babies. Though questionably good for your physical health, the tour is a lot more morally salutary than gawking at Britney Spears' crotch.
