Rice Restaurant

101205.5.jpgChic new Thai restaurant Rice on 14th Street is apparently getting slagged as too New York for DC, which is how I often feel about myself. However, DCist seems to think it has no such problem, defending the place as comfortably unpretentious and staffed with waitrons who don't intimidate with an overabundance of competence. Most of the negatives sound like snafus typical of a new restaurant still finding its feet -- waitstaff still learning wine, an unbalanced menu, etc. That said, both the traditional Thai entrees and moderately timid fusion options sound pretty attractive. Likely worth a look once they iron out the kinks.
