Where to Get Hit On by Married DC Politicos

Thursday, December 6, 2007

where%20to%20get%20hit%20on%20by%20married%20washington%20dc%20politicos.jpgThanks to blog reports about tap-dancin' Larry Craig, most Washingtonians know they can check out the bathrooms in Union Station for a good time. But plenty of scandalous liaisons begin in more "respectable" -- and hygienic -- DC establishments. Young interns and staffers quickly learn that if they don't want to be the next Monica, they'd better check for that wedding ring tan because Mr. Salt-and-Pepper also may be Mr. Wife-and-Three-Kids. His ego has ballooned during his time in Washington, and, if you're friendly, he just might have the cojones to invite you back to his Capitol Hill digs or to a local hotel room. Ew. If puffy politicos aren't your bag, baby, be on guard at the following establishments. More suggestions welcome in the comments or via tips.

Capital Grille

601 Pennsylvania Ave NW
Washington, DC 20004

Like to hear yourself talk? You won't at Capital Grille. The chain restaurant offers up red meat and a bevy of politicians, lobbyists, and the like, which means you probably won't get a word in edgewise. At least the steaks are good, and with the dim lighting, you'll never know how many laugh (or frown) lines that charmer next to you is sporting. (photo) [link]

Charlie Palmer Steak

101 Constitution Ave NW
Washington, DC 20001

Charlie Palmer Steak is one of the few politico bars where you can get a decent (if pricey) meal. And I'm not referring to the shady lobbyists. Have friends who adore the political scene? Make them take you here. At least you know Charlie Palmer has quality fries and a good Pinot Noir to get you through the happy hour. (photo) [link]

Round Robin Bar

1401 Pennsylvania Ave NW
Washington, DC 20004

The Willard Intercontinental's bar has been a place for politicians to schmooze since Henry Clay introduced Washington to the Kentucky mint julep here in the early 1800s. One online reviewer says the Round Robin also has a history of liaisons, claiming notorious Civil War Gen. Joseph Hooker used to bring his lady friends to the bar. Wheeling and dealing at the Round Robin continue today, albeit among an older crowd. If you're looking for power players (or they're eyeing you), it's here the twain of you shall meet. Monocle

107 D St NE
Washington, DC 20002

The Monocle bills itself as the "first table cloth restaurant" in the Capitol Hill area, making it the natural first choice for politicos looking to wine and dine younger paramours. Although the place reeks of establishment, some rather improper relationships are rumored to have begun over one too many cocktails in the dining room. Embattled Sen. David Vitter (R-La.), whose phone number appeared on the DC Madam's call records, was recently spotted at the restaurant, although as far as we know he was on his best behavior. (photo) [link]
