Whether your boss is making you work Friday or you just didn't have the cash for a plane ticket home, gather up some of your fellow District transplants and make it a holiday worth remembering (or not, depending on how much fun you have at the pub).

Turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberries, pumpkin pie. By the time Thanksgiving is over, the turkey isn't the only thing that's stuffed. Burn off a few hundred feast-day calories by running or walking through DC's Rock Creek Park. Make sure you get there during daylight hours, as the park closes at night. (photo) [link]

Football @ Buffalo Billiards

1330 19th St NW
Washington, DC 20036

If Cousin Johnny's kids are so loud you can't even hear the game, escape to one of DC's sports bars to watch your team with other anxious fans. Buffalo Billiards, located in Dupont Circle, offers 26 TVs and shows all major sporting events. You'll have your pick of the Green Bay Packers vs. the Detroit Lions, the New York Jets vs. the Dallas Cowboys, and the Indianapolis Colts vs. the Atlanta Falcons. In the mood for some college football? Watch USC take on Arizona State. Call the bar at (202) 331-7665 to reserve a viewing area. (photo) [link]

Feeling too lazy to cook? Dine in style at one of DC's premier restaurants. The Georgetown eatery is offering a three-course, prix-fixe menu including salad or soup, turkey, a pie sampler, and coffee or tea for $52 per person this Thanksgiving. The restaurant is located in a gorgeous Federal Period house and will seem just as cozy as your own home (if a bit more grand). (photo) [link]

Madame Tussaud's

Washington, DC 20004

What better way to celebrate the Turkey Day weekend than by making a visit to Ben Franklin, who thought your Thanksgiving main course should be our national bird? You can wax poetic with the man himself at Madame Tussaud's in downtown DC. (photo) [link]

Reston Town Center Holiday Parade

Market Street and Freedom Drive, Reston, Va. 20190

Nothing says 'tis the season like crowds of Americans fighting for the best position to see Santa Claus as he strolls by, followed by the high school marching band. Unless you're claustrophobic. If you think Thanksgiving without a parade is like going to war without an exit strategy, make the trek out to Reston for the town's annual holiday hullabaloo on November 23. The parade festivities begin at 11 a.m., and later in the evening, Reston lights the town Christmas tree and offers horse-drawn carriage rides. (photo) [link]
